In October of 2019, BlackFemaleProject was invited to host a breakout session at the Net Impact conference in Detroit. Every year, Net Impact convenes students and emerging leaders from across the globe to work together toward a more just and sustainable future. The 2019 conference theme was Widening the Lens.
BlackFemaleProject founder Precious J. Stroud facilitated a BlackFemaleProject Conversation with a group of Black woman leaders to discuss their experiences navigating structural racism and sexism in the sustainability sector.
Precious kicked off the conversation by asking participants if they felt prepared for what they encountered in their professional lives, and the conversation flowed organically from there, with each participant sharing anecdotes and insights from their career path, and a core emphasis on how Black women consistently rise in spite of the complex and compound barriers they encounter on their journeys.
Special thanks to Net Impact team members at the time, Alissa Hauser, Cristina Muñoz, and our session volunteers.
