Abayomi Jones, M.D.
Given the Yoruba name Abayomi- which means: born to bring me joy- by proud African-American parents, Dr.Jones’ life began with purpose. Growing up in East Palo Alto, California she learned the value of community, the strength of unity and the meaning of perseverance. At 17, she left home to attend Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, where she earned a bachelors of science in Biology.
Having embraced the HBCU experience, Abayomi then pursued her medical degree at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and eventually completed a Family Medicine residency in Philadelphia. Her career path would lead her back to Washington, DC to serve in underserved communities as a National Health Corp Scholar. Over time she would practice full spectrum family medicine as a primary care physician, urgent care specialist, labor and delivery attending, and healthcare consultant.
After traveling throughout Latin America and the Caribbean as a medical volunteer, Dr. Jones returned to California as a seasoned physician, wife, and mother of two young children (Madiba & Nairobi). Currently Abayomi spends most of her time consulting as a health administration specialist, supporting economic development in her local community, and promoting wholistic self-care.
Abayomi considers herself fortunate to now serve on the board of the Delta Peninsula Foundation, as she won their scholarship as a high school senior. She still keeps in touch with her AP English teacher, and represents E.P.A. as much as possible.
