As a Founder and CEO of Wachira Wines, Dr. Wachira is the first and currently, only Kenyan American vintner in the United States. She was very interested in crafting wines that were more than the contents in the bottle. What made wines special to her were the experiences, the special moments created with each pour. Whether it was winding down after a long day or dining out, wine was always about the moments.
It was really important to her to craft wines that complemented some of her favorite moments. A sip of the Wachira Zinfandel reminded her of her grandmother's kitchen enjoying a bowl of her lamb stew. The Wachira Muscat reminds her of moments shared with childhood girlfriends on hot Nairobi afternoons with clear blue skies and deep belly laughs.
Wachira Wines are a legacy of her dual heritage. Wachira, the family name, has been passed down for generations. In translation, it means "one who deals with cases". It is only fitting that she is now dealing with cases of wine. The Wachira Wine safaris are a celebration of the Big Five - Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo. The five varietals crafted with grapes sourced from Napa, Lodi and Paso Robles have unique fruit-forward notes that identify with characteristics unique to the Big Five.
