Interview a loved one for our Mother's Day Appreciation Collection. It can take as few as 10 minutes to record your interview, so let's get started!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can I interview? 
Your mother, daughter, aunt, grandmother, niece, friend or another woman in your life who you'd like to honor.

Is there a strict interview format?
There are guidelines for the interview. The conversation can flow freely. You can always return to the list of interview questions to get the conversation back on track.

When will my interview go live on the StoryCorps BlackFemaleProject Archive?
It may take up to 72 hours for your story to go live on our Soundcloud playlist.

THE EASIEST WAY TO PARTICIPATE

The simplest way to participate is to record your interview using your phone’s voice recorder. Once recorded, send an email to info@blackfemaleproject.org along with:

  1. AUDIO file (make sure the file is attached)

  2. Participant NAMES

  3. PHOTO of participants together

  4. SUMMARY or SHORT DESCRIPTION of your interview

  5. Three KEY WORDS that describe your interview (i.e. mother, passion, purpose, black women, medical, etc.)

Once we receive all five elements mentioned above, we may decide to upload the file and photo to our podcast Mother's Day Appreciation Collection playlist on  Soundcloud.

 

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS for Daughter/Young Woman to ask Mother/Elder Woman

Questions below offered in the context of preparing Black women for the realities of the work world:

  • What does it mean to you to thrive professionally?

  • How did your parents prepare you for the work world? (If they didn’t, why not?)

  • How do you compare the experience of women in the workplace today vs. when you began your career?

  • What is the most valuable lesson that you’ve learned about navigating racism and/or sexism at work?

  • How do you feel as I ask you these questions?

  • What are your hopes for me/your daughter and/or other Black women today, professionally?

  • Is there anything you’ve always wanted to say to me?
