The passion and historical legacy of educators like Fanny Jackson Coppin are a direct line to our work with Teacher Truth, which uplifts the stories and experiences of Black educators. Coppin was an American teacher and activist who became the first Black woman in the United States to head an institution of higher learning, and for whom Coppin State University is named. Her work helped to pave the way to brighter futures for her Black students and for future Black woman educators, like Kia Walton and Ericka Duke of the Teacher Truth collection. These Black teachers share an intention to not only pour into their students, but also to fight against oppression and create more equitable conditions for all young learners.
Another Black woman educator we’re excited to partner with is Ericka Blount, former educator and founder of Blount Wine Therapy. Hear more from Ericka when she joins BlackFemaleProject at Black Vines®, on Saturday, February 26, for a special presentation and wine tasting.
