The shifting of seasons is a time to think about transitions. As students and families get back into the swing of the school year, educators are finding their grooves in this year’s classrooms—and maybe beginning to feel ready for some rejuvenation. Black educators, Teacher Truth is here for you!
We gathered virtually on Thursday, September 1 for the 2nd Annual Teacher Truth Perspectives Watch Party and Collection Update, where we heard Teacher Truth interviewees, Kia Walton, Ericka Duke, and Abdul-Haqq Khalifah, share updates on their experiences as Black teachers since the inaugural story collection in 2021. Over 180 people RSVP'd for this year's event. Attendees participated in breakout sessions to make meaning of what they heard from the teachers and the Teacher Truth research team.

At the close of the 2021-22 school year, Teacher Truth Project Director, Dr. E’Rika Chambers, reflected on the journey and accomplishments of Teacher Truth over the outgoing academic year. We’re honored to keep learning from and being inspired by Black educators and their commitment to finding ways to thrive—even amidst a global pandemic, racialized capitalism, and battle fatigue. And we’re excited as we look ahead to another year of rich and impactful programming in support of Black educators.
Read Dr. Chambers’ blog to find out highlights from what we’ve accomplished, and stay connected via TeacherTruth.org to keep up with what we have planned in the coming months.
