If there's one central belief that sparked the work of BlackFemaleProject, it's the belief that storytelling has the power to heal. Sharing our stories helps us to acknowledge and process our own experiences; be seen and heard by others; and contextualize the barriers and challenges we face as patterns that are not personal to us. Further, we believe that stories can help to shift perspectives and ultimately create social change. After all, the current structures and systems that we live in are the result of stories that have been told since the dawn of the nation. We need to collectively buy into different, more truthful, more representative stories if we are to collectively transform our culture.
