Our Story
IN 2014, WE STARTED GATHERING EXAMPLES OF HOW STRUCTURAL RACISM AND SEXISM PLAY OUT IN THE WORKPLACE. WE REALIZED THAT BY STUDYING HOW BLACK WOMEN HAVE SURVIVED IN THIS POST-AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ERA, WE CAN EMPOWER THE NEXT GENERATION TO THRIVE.
“I stepped into this Project with the thought that I would be giving, contributing, and sharing, not realizing how much I’d be receiving. I was able to talk through things that were happening at work and even talk through things that had happened previously that I hadn’t quite processed. For me, that was the ultimate gift that I was not even expecting to receive.”
For over seven years, we have collected and shared women’s stories in print, digital media, and through numerous events to center Black women in statewide and national conversations about organizational culture, communications and inclusion at work.

Advisory Council
To increase the impact of BlackFemaleProject and to meet our goal of reaching 10,000 by 2023, we must position ourselves for large financial investments. Last year we became a nonprofit corporation, and leading the way forward is our distinguished advisory council. Made up of professional Black women from across the country, this group of experts will guide and advise BlackFemaleProject as we develop and operationalize our strategic plan for 2021-2024.
Member Spotlight
We celebrate the unique experiences and resilience of Black women while arming the next generation with wisdom and resources to help them thrive as well.

IMPACT REPORT
REFLECTIONS 2020 | OUR FIRST FIVE YEARS
BlackFemaleProject’s Inaugural Impact Report, Reflections 2020, examines what we’ve learned from spending five years listening deeply to individual and collective stories of professional Black women. In addition to reporting on key findings, Reflections 2020 also shares the ways we imagine moving our work forward and invites engagement and insights from our audience and community.
We envision a world in which Black women can show up as their full selves without any negative consequence.
BLACKFEMALEPROJECT PROMOTES:
Embracing cultural identity
Gaining an understanding of systemic inequities and an ability to identify them

BLACKFEMALEPROJECT ASKS PARTICIPANTS:
How can we prepare the younger women coming behind us?
How will the next generation benefit from what you’ve learned?
What do future generations need in order to stand confidently when faced with opposition?
BLACKFEMALEPROJECT CONTINUES TO:
Document women’s stories using various media
Bring women together for live events and networking
